Major works to commence in the Sovereign Centre Car Park
A detailed Planned Maintenance Programme was prepared for the whole of Sovereign Shopping Centre in March 2018 to enable the Management Team to proactively plan for future maintenance and thereby keep the Shopping Centre in good condition. The Planned Maintenance Programme identified that the asphalt waterproof covering to the Level 1 car park deck is in poor condition and requires resurfacing in the short term. This is particularly important given that the waterproof surface forms the roof of the Shopping Centre below.
Additional signage is being installed to ensure as little disruption as possible. The Night time entrance will now be via the Salisbury Terrace entrance. There will be no pedestrian access via the car park ramps. The work will take 10 weeks to complete and will commence on Monday 2nd September and finish on Friday 8th November. We do hope our customers will understand the reasons for these essential works and that the car park will be in a much better condition when these works are completed.
Accordingly, a new waterproof wearing surface will be applied to the whole of the Level 1 car park deck. The work will also include the ‘up and down’ ramps between ground and first and first and second floor levels as the surfaces to these ramps are equally worn. To ensure value for money is achieved a solution has been developed that does not require the existing asphalt to be removed – it will instead be retained and overlaid by the new product. In addition to this a 2-week programme of concrete repairs will also be undertaken,
The proposed waterproofing system is a cold applied seamless liquid system and is manufactured by Triflex who have been in the car park re-surfacing industry for many years. The system comprises a primer layer, a waterproof layer and a coloured ‘anti-skid’ finish coating. Coloured finishes have been carefully selected to ensure that the car park is simple to navigate and that disabled and ‘mother and baby’ car parking spaces and pedestrian walkways are clearly identified. Rateavon of Bristol have been appointed to complete the works.
During the works period only the Level 1 car park deck will be closed, however all of the upper floor decks will remain fully accessible to customers. The entrance and exit ramps to be car park will be in normal use and a temporary route will be put in place across the Level 1 car park to guide customers to the upper levels. The car valeting service will be open as usual, apart from 23-27 August.
